An employer must provide an employee with a written statement of particulars within two months of the employee's start date. Such a statement is usually referred to as a contract of employment. The contract will set out the obligations of both the employer and the employee during the employment relationship. The contract may also set out post-termination obligations of the employee such as restrictive covenants. A contract may also be oral or implied through custom and practice and an employer must provide certain minimum contractual requirements in areas such as hourly pay rate and annual holidays.
